Overview

This 4-hour tour with a vehicle offers a comprehensive tour of Hamburg’s inner-city, encompassing both the highlights of the historical centre and points of interest slightly further afield.

You will be met by one of our professional, local guides and a private driver and vehicle, either at your hotel or a pre-agreed meeting point. The first portion of the tour focuses on the historic heart of the city.

You will visit the stunning, neo-renaissance Town Hall and the iconic ‘Kontor Buildings’ on Deichstraße. Next you will visit St. Nicholas’s Church (the tower still a burnt out shell because of devastating allied fire-bombings in WW2) and the Trostbrücke (Hamburg’s oldest bridge). Then we spend some time in the UNESCO-listed Speicherstadt (the largest collection of warehouses in the world and now Hamburg’s trendiest district), before admiring the modern architectural splendour of the Elbphilharmonie – one of the most acoustically advanced concert halls on the planet

We then continue the tour by visiting three of Hamburg’s five principle Lutheran churches – St. Michaelis, St. Peter, and St. James – to marvel at some of the most iconic examples of north German red-brick, gothic architecture. Next up is the Binnenalster. This artificial lake formed from the Alster river, a tributary of the mighty Elbe, is a great spot to watch swans and boats gliding by and take in some stunning waterside views of the city.

You’ll then get a taste of Hamburg’s edgier side with a visit to the Reeperbahn, the main artery running through the city’s red light district. You will take a stroll around Beatles-Platz – where four life-sized silhouettes of John, Paul, George and Ringo commemorate Hamburg’s role in catapulting the ‘Fab Four’ to superstardom. Lastly we drive along the shores of the port (the third largest in Europe) and into the HafenCity on the Elbe, to explore Hamburg’s newest district and Europe’s most ambitious development project.

At the end of the tour your guide will accompany you as you are driven back to your hotel or another drop-off point of your choosing.
