Overview

If you're interested in a carefully designed tour, with the comfort and full experience of the best of Berlin, you couldn't have come to a better place. The rich history of the German capital has attracted intrigued tourists for years, and the still vibrant city does not disappoint. Berlin's recent history is turbulent and complex, and today the city boasts one of the richest and most diverse cultural scenes in Europe. On this tour, you can sit back, stress-free, while one of our experienced guides tells you all about one of the world's most exciting cities.

You will be welcomed in front of the cruise ship as soon as it docks, and you will be led to a modern, comfortable and air-conditioned coach. Our professional driver will then take you across the picturesque plains of the former East Germany to Berlin. The journey takes approximately three hours.

Your first stop in Berlin will be the stunning Charlottenburg Castle - the largest in the city. Our experienced English-speaking guide, who has been exploring the more-or-less famous corners of the city for years, will be waiting for you there to give you the full experience afterwards. This short stop will be an opportunity to stretch your legs and a small introduction before the fullness of the city. Then, with your guide, you will board the bus again and travel through the heart of former West Berlin, heading along the Kurfürstendamm. Even on this ride, the beautiful streets of Berlin are worth noting. For example, you will pass the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church - a ruined spire standing as a testament to the destruction caused by Allied bombing raids during World War II.

Driving past the Tiergarten and the stunning Victory Column, you will then head towards the historic city centre to the former east. An iconic building - the Reichstag - will probably catch your eye. Burned down after Hitler's rise to power, it is now a symbol of modern German democracy. You'll pass through the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin's most iconic landmark. Inglorious moments of Berlin's history also have their monuments in the city, which remain as a sign of remembrance. You will see the iconic concrete stele of the Monument to the Murdered Jews of Europe, and visit the controversial site of Hitler's bunker, where history's most well-known criminal committed suicide.

After a short break for rest and lunch, we will drive towards the UNESCO-listed Museum Island, via Nikolaiviertel, Alexanderplatz and the Television Tower, and then down Unter den Linden. There will be an opportunity to admire Berlin's two beautiful squares, Bebelplatz and Gendarmenmarkt. We then cross the border at Checkpoint Charlie, the most famous crossing of the Berlin Wall and the border of the Cold War. Finally, we will spend some time walking in the shadow of the remaining section of the Berlin Wall - the most brutal symbol of the Cold War.

Our accompanying guide will provide in-depth historical and cultural commentary on all the sites visited, and will be happy to satisfy your curiosity by answering any questions you may have. You will then move on to Schloss Charlottenburg at the end of the Berlin part of the tour. Afterwards, our driver will drive you back to the port, with enough time to return to the cruise without stress.

By choosing our shore excursions, you are guaranteed a good experience and a stress-free return on time for your cruise. All tours are tailored to each ship's docking times and each tour starts immediately upon the ship's arrival, returning with plenty of time before the ship departs. We have been organising shore excursions for almost a decade and have never been late for a cruise ship to depart.

The tour starts with a pick-up directly at the ship's docking port. You don't have to nervously look for our driver, we'll make sure you get to our tour. You will be escorted to a modern, air-conditioned coach and taken to Berlin - the journey takes about 3 hours.

2. Charlottenburg Palace

Upon arrival at Charlottenburg Palace, you will be met by our experienced English-speaking guide, who will join you to satisfy your curiosity about Berlin's history and culture. This will also be an opportunity to stretch your legs before continuing the bus tour.

3. Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church

Next, we'll witness the devastation caused by American and British bombing raids during World War II, driving past the surviving ruins of the late 19th century Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.

4. Tiergarten

We will then drive through the lush greenery of Berlin's vast central park, the Tiergarten. Originally created as a hunting ground for Prussian kings, it now serves as a place of tranquility and relaxation for locals.

5. Victory Column

Without leaving the park, you'll have the opportunity to see another reminder of Germany's Prussian past - the stunning Victory Column. Make sure you have your camera ready to capture the sun shining on the golden angel of Victoria, the goddess of victory, as you circle the Prussian monument of triumphs in the unification wars.

When we reach the German parliament building – burned down after Hitler’s rise to power, now a bold symbol of modern German democracy  – we will exit the bus and spend the next portion of the tour on foot.

7. Memorial to the Sinti and Roma Murdered Under National Socialism

You will also learn the somewhat lesser-known history of the Sinti and Roma who were persecuted and murdered by the Nazis during the Holocaust. We will visit the Memorial to the Sinti and Roma murdered during the Nazi era, also known as the "Monument to the Victims of Porajmos," to pay tribute to those who were persecuted as Gypsies during the Nazi era.

9. Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe

After leaving Pariser Platz, we will take time to walk through the intriguing field of concrete blocks. This is the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, which remains a witness to the atrocities of Nazism and, for us, a promise to remember the innocent victims of the Holocaust.

10. Site of Hitler’s Bunker

A short walk will take us to the bunker where the most notorious criminal committed suicide at the end of World War II.

11. Lunch

We will then stop for a short lunch break lasting about 45 minutes. In order to visit as many places as possible, there will not be much time for breaks, so this will not be a sit-down meal. We will stop at a place with many fast food options and access to bathrooms.

12. Nikolaiviertel

After returning to the coach, we will pass through Berlin's oldest district, Nikolaiviertel.

13. TV Tower

Then we will pass the famous Television Tower. It is the second tallest building in Europe, built as a symbol of the power and modernity of the East German state in 1969.

14. Alexanderplatz

We couldn't miss visiting the heart of pre-war Berlin. We will see the Old and New City Hall and the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, dating back to the 13th century!

15. Museum Island

After exiting the bus, we will again head to the heart of one of Berlin's most beautiful squares to visit the site of the Nazi book burning that took place on May 10, 1933.

18. Gendarmenmarkt

We will then continue the tour, to the architectural splendor of Berlin's most beautiful square. The impressive Gendarmenmarkt is famous for its architectural ensemble, including three impressive buildings surrounding the square. You'll have the opportunity to see the German and French cathedrals, as well as the concert hall.

19. Checkpoint Charlie

Next, you'll have the opportunity to cross the border between East and West at the most famous crossing of the Berlin Wall, the front line of the Cold War, where spies prowled and American and Soviet tanks faced each other in 1961.

20. Berlin Wall/Former SS and Gestapo Headquarters

At our final stop, you'll see the dark heart of Nazi Germany at the former headquarters of the SS and Gestapo and come face to face with the most brutal symbol of the Cold War: the Berlin Wall. You'll have time to use the bathrooms before boarding the bus again.

21. Potsdamer Platz

On the way back to Charlottenburg Palace, you will pass through the heart of modern Berlin, which was built in 2001, creating another part of German history.

22. Charlottenburg Palace

You will then end the Berlin portion of the tour back at Charlottenburg Palace. Your guide will leave you at this point and you will be driven back to the port.
