Every year for two weeks in October, Berlin’s most iconic monuments become the canvas for some of the world’s leading light and projection artists during the Festival of Lights. See the Berlin Cathedral splattered with colour, the buildings around Bebelplatz transformed by spectacular light overlays, and the Brandenburg Gate as the basis for a multimedia sensory extravaganza.
This 2-hour walking tour hits all the festival’s highlights and shows you Berlin and its landmarks as you’ve never seen them before. The 3-hour version of the tour includes a sightseeing tour with a visit to the main locations of the Festival of Lights.
You will be met by a professional, local guide at your hotel or a prearranged meeting point. Starting at Museum Island, you will spend some time watching the changing illuminations on the Berlin Cathedral, transforming the structure every few minutes. Continuing down Unter den Linden you’ll pass light installations on the former Crown Prince’s Palace and the Humboldt University. Turning into Bebelplatz, time will be taken to view the immersive animations projected onto the Hotel de Rome. Next up is Gendarmenmarkt, Berlin’s most beautiful square – made even more so by the light show. Finally, we make our way to the Brandenburg Gate to join the crowds watching the dazzling multimedia show displayed on the monument.
Throughout the tour, your guide will talk you through the artists behind the projections and provide historical commentary about the sites you are passing. At the end of the tour they will accompany you back to your hotel, or, if you prefer, you can explore some more of the illuminated city centre. Your guide will also be happy to provide recommendations and information to help you make the most out of your visit to Berlin.
