We begin the tour in the beautiful St. Peter's Square, with a stunning view of St. Peter's Basilica, the largest church in the world. Regarded as one of the holiest Catholic shrines, discover why the Basilica holds such a unique position in the Christian world. See the official residence of the Pope, as your local guide points out the beautiful Sistine Chapel.
Next, we will walk you through the stunning colonnade, designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and on to the 'passetto' (small passage) - a secret escape route, used by the Pontifex, which led to the safety of the Saint Angel Castle.
Learn the secrets of the Saint Angel Castle, initially commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family. Later used by the Popes, your guide will explain the history of this fascinating building, once the tallest building in Rome.
