Journey up and down the Kiel Fjord on this 6-hour bus tour. Your bus and your guide will meet you at your ship’s docking point, the Ostseekai, before you set off for a day jam-packed with all that Kiel and its surroundings have to offer. You will cruise past Germany’s largest shipyard, the HDW, with its mammoth gantry cranes, through the government district and past the old Olympic Port and Tirpitz Harbour into the Maritime Centre. Next, we cross the Kiel Canal for breathtaking views of the ships in their lock chambers and onto the waterway’s stunning sailing centre before stopping off at the Holtenauer Lighthouse. We will also step back into a time when Kiel was the heart of Nazi Germany’s fearsome Kriegsmarine at a dry-docked WWII submarine (€10 entry for adults). The tour includes 1.5 hours of free time for lunch and shopping and will return you to your ship at the end of the day.
You will be met by your professional, local guide and driver directly at your ships docking point.
First we cruise past Germany’s largest shipyard and marvel at its mammoth gantry cranes towards the city’s government district.
Next we head north up the Kiel Fjord to visit the site of the 1972 Olympics sailing competitions.
While at the Olympic Harbour time will also be taken to visit Kiel’s nationally renowned sailing center.
Driving south again we stop off at the historical heart of Germany’s naval forces.
We will then stop off in Kiel Old Town to explore the historic marketplace, see the Town Hall, and the Nicholas Church. You will have roughly 1.5 hours free time to explore on your own.
Back on the bus we cross Kiel’s primary man-made waterway for breathtaking views of enormous ships in their lock chambers.
We then stop at one of the most beautiful lighthouses in all of Germany, built under the rule of Kaiser Wilhelm II, and rub shoulders with real sailors in their leisure time.
Finally you will have the chance to visit the museum housed inside a dry-docked WWII submarine, for a fascinating insight into the Kriegsmarine – Nazi Germany’s naval force.
Your guide will then accompany you as you are driven back to your ship.
Our representatives will be waiting for you outside the terminal entrance, with a sign saying "Baltic Experience."
We adjust each tour’s starting time to the docking times of the cruise ship. In case a cruise ship is late or changes its itinerary, we amend the tour starting time accordingly.
At the end of the tour, you will be dropped off back at your cruise ship.
